Ultimate Guide to Low-Cost Food Plots in Hard to Reach Places
This is the guide to doing a DIY food plot on a budget in those areas you can't get a tractor or ATV in. Some people call these poor man's plot or hidey hole food plots, but this method of planting can be ultra effective in patterning bucks during deer hunting season. I've had to get creative with where I plant my food plots, due to difficult access. It isn't always easy but is always worth it. This is my first year partnering with Whitetail Institute, and I'm humbled that such an iconic brand in the deer hunting industry wants to work with me. Most of my food plots are done and most are in some type of brassica or clover blend. Hopefully, this video helps you plant the best food plot eve...

Best Way To Maximize Deer Food in Small Food Plots
Просмотров 782День назад
In this video, I talk about a great way to maximize the amount of deer food you can grow, even in small food plots. Most people don't have tons of land to dedicate to putting in deer food plots, so you need to get the best results from the food plots you are able to plant. These kind of plots have been called poor man plots or hidey hole food plots, but anyone can plant them, even on a budget. ...

How to Climb the Tree in One Trip - Saddle Hunting Basics
Great job! What part of Ohio? New sub.
I’m in north central!
How durable do think the Illuminator tape from Latitude holds up versus the grip tape you ran last year on these sticks? Illuminators look aesthetically better but the tape you ran last year did it hold up okay?
What ropes are you using for your lineman’s and tether and how are you adjusting your prusiks knot with one hand?
I'm 65 and thinking of trying saddle hunting. Am I foolish in my thinking?
My dad is in his sixties and he travels with me out of state every year using the saddle.
I’ve never seen a spreader like that, pretty neat!
Dumb question but how can you tell when you have the proper seed concentration? I have done brassica mixes the last few years and I can never tell if I have enough or too much and I feel like that’s why I have inconsistent results.
To do it right, you need to measure the area you are planting and then ideally you would weigh out your seed.
So ya gotta hold your weight away from the tree the whole time your in a tree ??? No thank ya. I'll gladly pass on that goofy set up. That don't even look like fun. I'll take my climbing summit any day of the week. Might even take me a nap in it to..😂😂 Each to there own. But you couldn't give me one of them goofy things
There’s a reason why you rarely see anyone with a climber anymore. Even my 60 year old dad ditched the summit climber for a saddle set up. I promise it’s much more comfortable than you’re imagining. I’m not out there to take a snooze, I’m out there to kill a buck. If you like the climber and it works for you, then more power to ya bud! Good luck this fall!
I currently have a Tethrd Phantom.. i hate the hip pinch in it.. Have you used a phantom and if so how does this Maverick compare?
I haven’t used a phantom for a long time but before you go switching saddles, watch this video and play around a bit. Might save you the money and hassle of switching. The Ultimate Guide for Saddle Hunting Comfort... ruclips.net/video/MwMyIbDHQE8/видео.html
That backpack trick is awesome, gonna use that for sure
Super clutch. Still so shocked I rarely see anyone do it.
First season in a saddle coming up and I heard that you should really practice setting up before going to the woods. I practiced the setup at ground level a few times to get the order down and get an idea of my own “system” of setting up. Made it sooooo much easier the first time I actually went up a tree.
Yes, this is a GREAT tip! It’s all about the reps. If you can practice a few times to where it’s second nature, you know where every thing goes, what is most comfortable, etc you will thank yourself come season.
Beauty A!
I couldn't find your tutorial on attaching the bungee; would you please link it in the comments and share the length of your shock cord cuts? Thank you!

Great tips my friend! Thank you for sharing!!
Appreciate you buddy!
For me my first year was just a learning year. I’m from pa and we went on a trip to Missouri. My dad’s friend from marines had land there. But I just got the sticks and haven’t climbed once. The first time was pitch black on the first day of hunting. It ended up taking me around 30 minutes and I felt a little uncomfortable climbing. If I had to give tips I would tell anyone getting into it to practice multiple times. Try different ways. It took me a good 7-8 times before I could get up and ready in 10-15 minutes.
Yep, this is a GREAT tip. Practice makes everything easier. I wasn’t always as swift up the tree. It took a lot of reps to get that way.
Can anyone tell me how these compare to Gen 3 One stix????
That’s a good buck
Why
So you can share your hunts with friends. Having the footage also helps you recover the animals easier because you can see where you hit them instead of going just based off memory.
Im in ohio as well se ohio we have not had a winter in yrs but i think we are in for a doosy this yr. Great tips on how to plant. I do the same thing
What makes you think this year will be bad? Any EHD down by you or have we had enough timely rains?
@@NextStepOutdoors no ehd that i no of. I just think we are due for a good winter. We will c. Hopefully its harder than last yr. And we aint had very good rains
Yeah we might actually get some hungry deer in November!
Yeah but could that defeat the purpose of the stabilizer? Knocking the bow off balance? Unless it’s positioned to where it balances out
@@ryze1120 the point of a stabilizer is to add weight to the front of your bow. You may have to adjust the amount of weight on the front of your stabilizer but I’d venture to guess most guys aren’t even good enough to notice a real difference.
I have heard that putting your phone directly on very powerful magnets can damage internal parts of your phone. I once bought a “fishing magnet” and it actually came with a warning to keep my phone away from it.
@@staggerleesmancave8987 these guys have done a ton of research. Lots of products use magnets.
It’s not the magnet I’d worry about but rather the vibration from shooting the bow. There’s a reason motorcycle phone mounts are so much more robust compared to bike and car mounts. The vibration can ruin the sensors in your phone.
that bow looks like it was 3D printed in a meth lab 😂
We need to see the rain dance
You have to pay extra for that!! $$$
Bringing good tips and knowledge per usual 👊🏻👊🏻
Thanks homie!
I use a diy saddle made of paracord, and have been saddle hunting for about 30 years.
Have you tried any of the commercially available saddles? How does yours compare?
@NextStepOutdoors no I have not tried any of them, but wager mine is lighter and far more comfortable. The lower portion extends from my butt to the back of my knees and the upper goes from my lumbar to half way up my back. The commercial saddles just don't offer that much area. I can also easily adjust either "panel" at any time , including while in the tree.
Just getting into the saddle game and his year at 63 got my whole set up and with pack, bow the whole nine it took me right at 20 minutes my second time setting up. Just got this in last week so I don’t know if I’m going to make it to the woods This October but we gonna give it hell

That’s a nice buck
I’m 16 months away from retiring. I’m going to sell my house in South Florida and move a little north. North Florida or South Alabama. I want a smaller house with more property. This will be one of my first things to do. Food for me and food for the wildlife. Thank you for some great pointers.
A little chunk of land will keep you plenty busy in retirement!
I checked my food plot today and it’s actually doing much better than last year. It isn’t perfect but I have around 60% growth with a turnip/brassica mix. Going to fill in with cereal rye in a couple weeks. I didn’t think to fertilize prior to planting so I am going to at some after it grows a bit more so I don’t fry it.
The rye will make a huge difference. In my experience, the deer love it and its extremely browse resistant.
Bag of 46-0-0 when you plant your grain will work perfectly ahead of a good Sept soaker! Good luck! That's my plan anyways!
I have the mag pro for my bow as well, my only issue has been holding on the target after releasing. But some more practice and it will come I am sure!
Yea, I think most people tend to drop their bow after shooting. Just have to be conscious of what you are doing in the moment. (Easier said than done)
Just got my first saddle setup and was looking for these kind of tips. This is excellent!
That's got to be a thousand times more comfortable that the Swiss seat that I've always tied. I know the Swiss seat is super strong and safe, which is why I've always used it, but it's unreasonably uncomfortable. The way it's designed, if you aren't in pain using it, it's not tight enough and therefore not safe. I really wanna invest in, or learn, some better rigging
Now I can watch instagram reels while hunting in nature
